Job tracker

A job tracker is a centralized record of your job applications: which openings you applied to, when, through which channel, who you spoke with and where each process stands. It can be a spreadsheet or a dedicated tool; what matters is that it exists and stays up to date.

Why applying without a record burns openings

After twenty applications, memory isn't enough, and the mistakes cost real opportunities:

• Applying twice to the same opening, or to the same company with two different resumes, signals carelessness and can get you discarded.
• No follow-up: with no send date or contact on record, the follow-up never happens and the process dies in silence.
• Arriving at the interview without context: if you didn't save the job description —many portals delete it once the opening closes— you can't prepare answers for that specific role.
• Not knowing what works: without data per channel, you repeat for months a strategy that isn't generating interviews.

Every burned opening is a double loss: the opportunity itself and the time it took to find it.

What to record at minimum

Company, role, link or description of the opening, application date, channel (job board or ATS, referral, direct contact), contact person, process status and next step with a date. A ten-minute weekly review keeps the funnel alive and shows where to adjust.
