Job search plan
What a job search plan is: target industries, dream companies by size, channels and your network before you start applying.
A job search plan is the definition, before you apply, of where and how you are going to search: which industries interest you, which companies you want to work for, which channels you will move through and who in your network can open doors. It is the opposite of cold-applying to everything that shows up.
What a good plan includes
- Target industries: two or three sectors where your profile competes well, not "anything that pays".
- Companies by size: for each industry, dream companies that are small, medium and large; size changes the hiring process, the salary and the way in.
- Channels: job boards and ATS platforms, LinkedIn, headhunters, direct outreach; each target company has one channel that is shorter than the rest.
- Network: which people —close contacts, former colleagues, your university community, events— can refer you or give you context on a company before you apply.
Why it matters in Latin America
In the region, a large share of openings are filled through referrals before they are ever published: that is the hidden job market. A plan of pure cold applications is half a search; the other half is your network. With defined targets, each week also has concrete actions —reach out to someone, map a company, apply with a tailored resume— instead of endless scrolling through job boards.
How Ingenium works on this
The job search plan is a literal step of the Career Accelerator: three industries, dream companies by size and the network you will get there through. It counts as underway with one industry worked and one real contact —the network is not optional— and it closes by connecting to the Job Tracker, where every application gets followed up. Your Career Coach reviews the plan with you before you go out and apply.
